Purchasing and owning a sauna is appealing for many reasons. The difference between a regular sauna and an infrared sauna is that saunas that generate heat through infrared can duplicate the benefits. Infrared heat causes increased heart rate and sweating at a lower temperature. Because of this, those who can’t tolerate the higher heat range of a regular sauna might enjoy using an infrared one instead. However, is there any credence to the claims that use of infrared saunas can rejuvenate your health?
The medical profession has tried to determine whether the use of infrared saunas can have positive effects on humans suffering from a wide range of ailments. Patients with high blood pressure, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and others have tried regular sauna use. It seems likely that until more extensive clinical studies are attempted, the long-range therapeutic effects of infrared saunas on these patients will remain inconclusive. However, even if the use of a sauna is no “miracle cure” for such acute conditions, the patients did report feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
The fact is, regardless of whether a person is relatively healthy or suffering from a severe health problem, the benefits of regular sauna use will be the same for both. Saunas induce what are called heat-shock proteins, which can keep aspects of the cells functioning longer and help with muscle gain. Saunas also improve brain function. The growth of new brain cells is triggered, and there’s an increase of BDNF and similar neurotransmitters which allow the brain to function better. It’s also common to experience a sense of euphoria post-sauna use that is like the high people get when they finish exercising. The release of endorphins will improve your mood, and you’ll experience relief from nagging aches and pains.
From these benefits, it is plain to see that use of an infrared sauna is beneficial to people regardless of whether they are completely healthy, or whether they are dealing with a debilitating condition. Wherever you’ve arrived in your life, it’s always prudent to use a sauna regularly. The benefits are wide-ranging, and you'll feel them immediately.
